Fiery orange-red hexagonal vanadinite crystals on a dark black & bulbous hematite from the Mibladen mining district of Morocco.
The bright red crystals contrast nicely against the hematite. And with this specimen the bubbly nature of the hematite is pronounced and the “broken” bubbles give a glimpse inside the structure.
Botryoidal growth starts with a particulate speck; in this case- iron oxide. Millions of these micro crystals grow outward at (nearly) the same speed in every direction, causing radial growths (bubbles). As these bubbles grow, they can run into or overlap with others, then fusing together to form a botryoidal cluster.
This piece measures roughly 3.5” x 2.75” x 1.25” high. Will come with a stand.
There is some damage on the vanadinite and it was priced accordingly.
