Highly collectible semi *floater* fluorite from the now-closed Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee.
Floater refers to the lack of a contact point- this piece is completely crystallized on all sides of the fluorite. Imagine the miner reaching into a pocket and this is just sitting there loose.
There is a bit of druzy matrix attached to the back and that too has a “soft” edge. There is a teeeeeeny tiny fluorite cube attached.
Soft lavender purple with small spots or specks that are often called “radiation burns” but are actually impurities such as pyrite or chalcopyrite embedded in the fluorite. Darker purple zoning visible on the face cube.
Measures roughly 3” x 1.75”.
