Asthetically pleasing medium cabinet specimen from the Cumberland Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, located just a few miles north of the world-famous Elmwood Mine.
The Cumberland Mine is still an active zinc mine and field collecting is not allowed. This is an old collection piece, specifically noted to be Drift 16-5-3, which was a horizontal tunnel cut into the rock to access a vein—and known for producing spectacular, UV-reactive specimens.
2 gemmy, honey-coloured, double-terminated calcites perched on the top of a baby calcite-dusted mass of red sphalerite with a 3rd calcite crystal peeking out. The larger of the calcites measures 2.5 cm.
Highly UV reactive- showing bright red!
Measures roughly 3.5” across the bottom (9cm) and sites 1.5” high (3.5 cm).
