Ammolite is the iridescent or opalized outer-layer of fossilized ammonites (ancestors of our modern nautilus). Its is one of few biogenic gemstones (along with amber and pearl) recognized by gemological organizations such as the GIA.
This is a slice of ammolite set in .925 sterling silver. The ammolite has been coated in protective resin (VERY common practice to protect the fragile layers).
